Pear Lake wildfire remains out of control as evacuations continue

The Pear Lake wildfire remains active and out of control, with evacuation orders and alerts continuing in parts of the broader Kamloops region.

The BC Wildfire Service lists the fire, incident C40983, as a wildfire of note. Its incident dashboard indicates evacuation orders and evacuation alerts remain associated with the fire.

For residents in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, an evacuation order and evacuation alert remain active in Electoral Area B, according to the regional district’s emergency-operations listing. The SLRD said in its Aug. 22 wildfire update that the evacuation order remained in effect.

The regional district updated its Pear Lake evacuation alert on Aug. 23 following recommendations from the BC Wildfire Service. The update removed some properties from the alert and added properties that had previously been under evacuation order but were downgraded to alert. Residents can find the SLRD’s current alert information, including its map and instructions, on the Pear Lake evacuation alert page.

In the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, an amended evacuation alert covers about 38 addressed properties in Electoral Area E, including sections of Jesmond Road and Pavilion-Clinton Road, according to EmergencyInfoBC. The provincial emergency-information page identifies the alert as being related to the Pear Lake wildfire.

The fire is located east of Pear Lake, according to EmergencyInfoBC’s Pear Lake evacuation-order notice for SLRD Electoral Area B.

Travellers should also be aware that Pavilion-Clinton Road is closed in both directions between Clinton and Mowich Road because of wildfire conditions, the SLRD said in its wildfire update.

Evacuation boundaries and road access can change as conditions change. Residents, property owners and travellers should check the SLRD and provincial emergency-information pages for the latest maps and directions before travelling in the area.

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s forecast for the Kamloops and Monte Lake areas called for afternoon southwest winds of 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h, along with a chance of showers. That forecast is not a Pear Lake-specific fire-weather forecast and does not establish conditions at the wildfire site.
