Echoes of the Homesick Heart – On Screen – The Kamloops Film Society

Join us for a one-day screening event celebrating Laura Michel’s Echoes of the Homesick Heart! 12pm – 3pm, June 22, 2025.

This powerful verbatim theatre piece, originally presented by Western Canada Theatre, explores a multi-generational Secwépemc family’s connection and disconnection to language, culture, and community through real-life interviews. Presented by the Kamloops Film Society and supported by NAC Indigenous Theatre, all proceeds will support a new bursary for Secwepemcstin Language revitalization.

The screening includes the filmed 2022 production and a panel discussion with theatre artists, musical artists, and language specialists like Lori Marchand, Merewyn Comeau, Jeremy Kneeshaw, and Janice E. Billy.

TICKETS BY DONATION: 100% of proceeds will fund the new Echoes of the Homesick Heart Bursary, established to support Secwepemc post-secondary students dedicated to learning and revitalizing the Secwepemcstin language.
