Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Yom Kippur:
“Tonight, Jewish communities in British Columbia and around the world will observe Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year.
“Beginning at sunset, many will enter a period of fasting, prayer and reflection as they mark the end of the Days of Awe that began with Rosh Hashanah. Yom Kippur is a solemn time for seeking forgiveness, making amends and looking ahead with renewed purpose.
“As Jewish communities observe this sacred day, we also recognize the antisemitism that Jewish people continue to face in British Columbia and around the world. We condemn antisemitism in all its forms and remain committed to building a province where everyone can live, worship and celebrate their traditions free from hate.
“To everyone observing Yom Kippur, I wish you a meaningful day of reflection. Tzom Kal and G’mar Chatimah Tovah.”
