Just one public meeting on the 2026 City Budget this year: November 19
The City of Kamloops has reduced the normal two public budget information sessions to one this year―which makes it even more important than usual. We hope you can come out to the Sandman Centre (Kia Lounge) on Wednesday November 19, 2025, between 6–8 pm to have your say. You can also fill in the online survey which will be available until December 19.
In-person meetings provide an opportunity for residents to talk to Council and Staff directly. At these meetings it’s helpful to ask questions, advocate for the services or projects you think will benefit the community, or get information on how municipal taxes will affect your household.
One of the items that you may want to bring up at this meeting is the need to improve transit service across the City. City Council approved an increase in BC Transit hours this year, but service levels will not change unless the transit budget is increased. Given that we’re heading into an election year, Council may be reluctant to invest more.
Transit users are a wide cross-section of the community―and they deserve better service. Older folks who do the responsible thing and surrender their drivers’ license shouldn’t be punished by an inadequate system. Limited bus service can prevent people from using transit to get to work. There are people of all ages who are unable to drive for health reasons or financial reasons. And of course there are teenagers who are old enough to get around independently, but still too young to drive. City Council needs to hear that residents expect better service for everyone who relies on public transit!
