This Summer’s Thursday Film Series explores the history of the Western genre. From classic American Westerns (My Darling Clementine) to Akira Kurosawa’s take on the lone antihero that inspired A Fistful of Dollars (Yojimbo). Once Upon a Time in the West represents the Italian western in this series, starring My Darling Clementine’s hero, Henry Fonda, as one of cinema’s greatest villains. No Country For Old Men is TFS’ representative of a neo-western. The Coens take the conventions of the West and subvert them to explore their nature.
