The Kamloops Film Society will introduce its 2026-27 Met Opera: Live in HD program with a pre-season gala at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The separately ticketed event begins at 6:15 p.m. at the theatre, 503 Victoria St. A licensed reception will feature local soloists and a mini chorus performing selections from Carmen, according to the Film Society’s event listing.

The listing says minors may attend. A cash bar and wine for purchase will be available to patrons aged 19 and over.

At 7 p.m., the theatre is scheduled to screen Twenty Years of the Met in Cinemas: An Anniversary Celebration, a 180-minute retrospective drawn from the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD series.

The gala is not included in the Film Society’s 2026-27 season pass. Tickets are available through the Film Society’s official ticketing page.

The regular Paramount Theatre season is scheduled to start Oct. 3 with Mozart’s Così fan tutte and continue through June 5, 2027, with Wagner’s Parsifal. The Film Society lists eight live transmissions in total: Così fan tutte, Macbeth, Samson et Dalila, La Fanciulla del West, Silent Night, Manon, Otello and Parsifal.

Regular individual tickets are listed at $32, or $30 for Film Society members, seniors, students and children. Members who are seniors, students or children are listed at $28. Season passes are listed at $230 regular and $215 senior, with taxes and fees included, on the Film Society’s opera-season page.

The season also has two separately purchased encore presentations planned: Carmen on Nov. 21 and The Magic Flute on Dec. 19. Season-pass holders are eligible for $20 encore tickets, though those screenings are not part of the pass.

In partnership with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, the Film Society has also planned three free Opera Talks at Kelson Hall, 330 St. Paul St. The sessions are listed for Nov. 15, Feb. 14 and April 18, from noon to 1 p.m.; no registration is required. The Film Society says the dates are subject to change.

The talks are described as interactive educational sessions led or curated by dramatic soprano Heidi Muendel, with local artists, discussion, live demonstrations and audience questions.

Tickets for Film Society events can generally be bought online or at the Paramount box office while quantities last. The society says tickets can generally be refunded or exchanged up to 24 hours before an event.
