Municipal Election - Kamloops Voter 2

Barnhartvale

Barnhartvale is a rural-oriented community at the southeastern edge of Kamloops, south of Dallas and beyond the more developed areas of the city. The area follows Barnhartvale Road and includes the Todd Road and Pratt Road corridors, with homes, larger rural parcels, farms, ranches and equestrian properties spread through a broad valley and surrounding grassland hills.
The community has a distinct local identity while remaining part of the City of Kamloops. Barnhartvale was one of the outlying communities incorporated into Kamloops during the 1973 municipal amalgamation. Its history is connected to early settlement around Campbell Creek, and the area retains a countryside character that differs from Kamloops’ more urban neighbourhoods.
Barnhartvale Road serves as the main route through the community, with Todd Road and Pratt Road providing access to residential areas and rural properties. Local services and gathering places include R.L. Clemitson Elementary School and the Barnhartvale Community Hall, which is maintained by the Barnhartvale Community Association and supports community meetings, school activities and local functions.
Outdoor recreation is an important part of the area. Todd Hill Park provides a neighbourhood recreation space, while the nearby Dallas-Barnhartvale Nature Park offers trails, a wetland, picnic areas, washrooms and parking. The surrounding open landscape also includes networks used for walking, cycling and other low-impact outdoor activities, with marked routes intended to help protect the area’s sensitive grassland environment.
Barnhartvale’s combination of rural land uses, community facilities, school and nearby nature areas gives it the character of a countryside community within Kamloops. It functions as both a residential area and a gateway to the open landscapes and recreational settings southeast of the city.
