Brocklehurst is a North Shore neighbourhood in the western part of Kamloops, northwest of the junction of the North and South Thompson Rivers. It generally stretches between the river corridor and the hills around Batchelor Heights, with the Kamloops Airport and open lands to the west and North Kamloops to the east. The area is served by major routes including Tranquille Road and Ord Road, which connect it with the rest of the North Shore and nearby rural and industrial areas.
The neighbourhood has developed from an agricultural landscape into an established residential community. Orchards and other fruit-growing operations once formed an important part of the area, while post-war growth brought schools, local shopping, community facilities, and a largely low-rise suburban pattern. Brocklehurst was incorporated as a district municipality in 1971 and became part of the City of Kamloops through the 1973 amalgamation.
Schools and recreation facilities are central to Brocklehurst’s community role. Brocklehurst Secondary, Kay Bingham Elementary, Parkcrest Elementary, Twin Rivers Education Centre, and other nearby educational facilities serve local families and the wider North Shore. Brocklehurst Park forms a major recreation hub with playgrounds, sports fields, tennis and pickleball courts, basketball facilities, and access to the Brocklehurst Arena and outdoor pool. Parkcrest Park and smaller neighbourhood parks add more space for organized sports, play, and informal outdoor activity.
Brocklehurst also has a strong connection to Kamloops’s dry grassland landscape. Ord Road provides access to the Cinnamon Ridge area, known for its distinctive hoodoo formations and views across the surrounding hills. The neighbourhood combines established residential streets and everyday services with schools, community institutions, sports facilities, and nearby open spaces, giving it an important local-service role within Kamloops’s North Shore.
