Dallas is an eastern Kamloops neighbourhood located along the South Thompson corridor, near the city’s urban edge and the Trans-Canada Highway. Dallas Drive is the principal local route, connecting the residential area with nearby commercial services and the highway network. The neighbourhood sits close to Barnhartvale and Campbell Creek, with a mix of established homes, newer development, open land, and properties with a semi-rural character.
Outdoor recreation is an important part of the area. Dallas Park provides soccer fields, pathways, and picnic facilities, while the Dallas-Barnhartvale Nature Park offers trails, a wetland, and space for walking and exploring. The BC Wildlife Park, located on Dallas Drive, is one of the neighbourhood’s best-known destinations and combines wildlife viewing, rehabilitation, conservation, and environmental education.
Dallas also has a strong community identity supported by local services, a neighbourhood association, and facilities such as the Dallas/Barnhartvale fire hall. The area was one of several surrounding communities incorporated into the City of Kamloops during the 1973 amalgamation. Its name is associated with Dallas Johnson, an early area farmer, and reflects the neighbourhood’s history as a distinct settlement east of the city.
