Lower Sahali occupies the lower portion of Sahali on Kamloops’s southwest side, rising from the Columbia Street and McGill Road area toward the higher residential parts of Sahali. It is one of the city’s southwest-sector neighbourhoods and connects the city centre with Upper Sahali, Aberdeen, and Southgate. The neighbourhood is commonly understood as a general local area rather than a precisely defined administrative district, with its character shaped by the meeting of established residential streets, major roads, institutional uses, and commercial centres.

Residential blocks include older low-density streets as well as townhouse, apartment, and other multi-family development, particularly near major routes and the Sahali Town Centre. McGill Road and Columbia Street provide important links through the neighbourhood, with shops, restaurants, services, and everyday amenities concentrated around these corridors. This mix gives Lower Sahali a practical connection to both nearby homes and the wider Kamloops region.
Lower Sahali is also closely connected with Thompson Rivers University and the Tournament Capital Centre. The university is located in the Sahali area on the city’s southwest slopes, while the neighbouring recreation complex includes the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, Hillside Stadium, the TCC Fieldhouse, and fitness facilities. Beattie Elementary is located on McGill Road, and public green spaces such as McBeth Park provide nearby outdoor areas within the developed neighbourhood. The larger Kenna Cartwright Nature Park is accessed from several points around the southwest slopes, including Hillside Drive, and offers an extensive trail network through the grassland and forested landscape of Mount Dufferin. Its trails provide broad views over Kamloops, the Thompson Valley, Kamloops Lake, and the meeting of the North and South Thompson Rivers.
With its hillside setting, access to major roads, proximity to Thompson Rivers University and major civic recreation facilities, and combination of housing, schools, open space, and commercial activity, Lower Sahali serves as an important connecting neighbourhood in southwest Kamloops.
