Municipal Election - Kamloops Voter 1

North Kamloops

North Kamloops is an established urban neighbourhood on the north side of the Thompson River, immediately northwest of downtown Kamloops. It forms part of the city’s broader North Shore and sits between the downtown bridge connections and the residential areas extending west toward Brocklehurst. Its location gives the neighbourhood an important role as a link between the city centre, North Shore communities, and major routes leading toward the airport and northern Kamloops.
The neighbourhood has a varied, well-developed pattern of older residential streets, apartment buildings, schools, community facilities, and commercial properties. Tranquille Road is a central activity corridor, with shops, restaurants, services, and civic uses serving residents from across the North Shore. Nearby streets and arterial routes provide connections to downtown, Brocklehurst, the airport area, and recreation destinations on the north side of the river.
North Kamloops is also home to a range of community institutions, including elementary and secondary schools, the John Tod Centre YMCA, the North Kamloops Library, and other educational and social-service facilities. Parks and recreation areas in and around the neighbourhood include McDonald Park and the McArthur Island area, with sports fields, pathways, cycling facilities, and other amenities. The neighbourhood’s history is closely tied to the growth of Kamloops as a regional centre: North Kamloops was incorporated as a village in 1946 and amalgamated with the City of Kamloops on November 4, 1967. Today, it remains a longstanding commercial, residential, and community hub on the North Shore.
