Municipal Election - Kamloops Voter 1

Valleyview

Valleyview is an established neighbourhood on the east side of Kamloops’ South Shore, extending along the South Thompson River corridor and the Valleyview Drive area. It is connected to the rest of the city by the Trans-Canada Highway and nearby arterial routes, with the residential area rising from the valley floor toward the hills and adjoining communities. The neighbourhood’s setting combines river-valley views, established streets, and access to open, dry-Interior landscapes.
The area has a long civic history. Valleyview was incorporated as a village in 1969 and became part of the City of Kamloops through the 1973 amalgamation. Today, it functions as a mixed residential and service neighbourhood, with detached homes, multi-unit housing, schools, community facilities, recreation spaces, and a concentration of restaurants and everyday businesses along Valleyview Drive and the highway corridor.
Valleyview Secondary School is a major institutional presence in the neighbourhood and serves students from the eastern part of Kamloops and surrounding South Shore communities. Valleyview Arena provides an additional recreation facility, while Valleyview Centennial Park includes a soccer field and tennis or multi-purpose court. The nearby Valleyview Community Hall supports local gatherings and community activities.
Outdoor spaces are another defining feature of Valleyview. Valleyview Nature Park is a linear nature area with trails, and the neighbourhood provides convenient access to walking routes and the broader network of parks and trails in Kamloops’ eastern South Shore. Together with its schools, commercial services, community facilities, and transportation connections, Valleyview serves as an important local centre for residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
