September 16, 2026– Mission, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On September 11, 2026, Steven Laroche, an inmate from Mission Institution, died while in our custody.

At the time of death, the inmate was 58 years old and had been serving a life sentence, which commenced on December 19, 1997.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) policy requires that the coroner be notified.
