As we all enjoy September’s cooler nights and clearer smoke-free days, the KFS’ Board is turning its attention to our fall AGM. This year’s board will see some changes as three directors depart, among them our long-time director Kevin Martin who passed away in March. We’ll welcome new faces in their place, each of them bringing new perspectives and experience that will help guide our board through the next years. Expressions of Interest for the three positions closed on September 15, and the difficult task of selecting from an excellent group of applicants began. 

A special free screening of “The Grey Fox”, a film about Bill Miner, the gentlemanly stagecoach robber who held up a payroll train near Kamloops in the early 1900’s, will be held on September 19. The film will be followed by a post-film panel of the real-life story behind one of BC’s most notorious historical figures and how his legend has been shaped over time. The event was organized by our own KFS Board Chair, Sean Patrick Donlan, TRU professor of law, historian and film critic and himself one of the featured panelists. The KFS has partnered with the City of Kamloops and Connective (formerly John Howard Society, Thompson Region).

Our late August Paramount lobby refresh is now complete, and on October 6 we will thank our many volunteers and generous vendors who helped make it possible at a reception followed by a film screening. The ‘wish list’ of more theatre improvements is still long, and the board are eager to explore ways to bring more community partners along to help transform our aging beauty into an even more welcoming space for our downtown Kamloops visitors.
