Sacred Heart Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church and the cathedral of the Diocese of Kamloops, located at 255 Nicola Street in downtown Kamloops, at the southwest corner of Nicola Street and Third Avenue. It serves as a place of worship, prayer, sacramental ministry, and community life for Catholics in Kamloops and throughout the diocese.

The present building was constructed after the original Sacred Heart Church, opened in 1887 near Battle Street and Second Avenue, was destroyed by fire on Ash Wednesday in 1919. Construction of the replacement church began in 1921, and the new building opened in December 1925. When the Diocese of Kamloops was established in 1945, Sacred Heart Church was elevated to cathedral status in 1946.

Recognized as a heritage property, the cathedral is noted for its Romanesque design, red-brick exterior with light stone detailing, domed tower, columns, balustrade, stained- and leaded-glass windows, and ornate interior. Its Carrara marble altar, shipped from Italy, remains one of the building’s prominent historic features. A 1973 addition expanded the seating capacity and provided additional space for the cathedral community.

Today, Sacred Heart Cathedral continues to host regular Catholic worship and supports parish ministries, faith formation, music, children’s programs, volunteer groups, and community celebrations. Its long history and distinctive architecture make it an important religious and heritage landmark in central Kamloops.
