Municipal Election - Kamloops Voter 2

Heffley Creek

Heffley Creek is a rural community in the northern part of Kamloops, on the east side of the North Thompson River and north of the city’s more urban neighbourhoods. The community is associated with the Old Highway 5 corridor and extends through a mix of rural residential properties, working lands, forested areas, and river-valley landscapes. Its setting also places it near the route toward Sun Peaks and the broader North Thompson region.
The area has a long connection to ranching, farming, transportation, and settlement along the North Thompson Valley. Heffley Creek was established as a named community in the early 20th century, with its name connected to local rancher Adam P. Heffley. It became part of the City of Kamloops through the 1973 amalgamation that brought several surrounding communities into the municipality.
Community life is centred around local institutions rather than a dense commercial district. Heffley Creek Elementary serves younger students from the community and surrounding rural areas, while the Heffley Creek Community Hall and the Heffley Creek Community Recreation Association provide space for recreation, gatherings, and local activities. These facilities contribute to the area’s close-knit community role and serve residents from nearby rural locations as well.
The surrounding landscape is an important part of Heffley Creek’s character, with access to open countryside, wooded slopes, the North Thompson valley, and outdoor recreation opportunities in the wider Kamloops and Sun Peaks area. Nearby river and wetland environments, including the North Thompson oxbow areas, support wildlife habitat and contribute to the region’s ecological importance. Overall, Heffley Creek retains the character of a small rural settlement while remaining within Kamloops city boundaries.
