July Member of the Month
For the member of the month – July 2026, we interviewed KAC admin coordinator & artist Insun Kang.
Full Name: Insun Kang
Medium: Oil / Acrylic paint, pigment sticks
How long have you been practicing your art:
Approx. 7 years now.
What got you originally interested in the art you do:
Since I was a kid, I loved sketching and colouring. Then I started visiting museums and art galleries and was fascinated by so many different styles and how artists portray their view on all things in the world. I joined art club in middle school and started painting. However, I didn’t pursue after high school, just didn’t thought being artist as a career. It was much later that I realised I still had passion towards painting and started taking some art classes from local artists.
What is something you have learned about yourself through your art:
I learned that I have patience with painting process and focus to finish what I started.
What do you enjoy the most about your art:
I love to find beauty in ordinary scenes, that’s where inspiration comes from. It is easy to overlook or take small things for granted when you are living busy life. Through my art, I intend to bring what I found beauty on to canvases and share them with the world.
If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why:
Oil painting and pigment stick. I personally love the texture of oil paint and the fact that I can work on my own pace. The pigment sticks bring more fun to the oil painting when combined.
What do you think makes art important:
I believe Art sustains people’s freedom of expressions. People have been using different forms of art, such as music, dancing, painting, sculpture, poetry etc… to record and express themselves. If you take away these things the world would be so boring and people would be miserable.
What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year:
I am planning to have my 3rd solo show in October 2026. Also, I will submit my works to exhibits outside of Kamloops area more in the future.
