Westsyde is a primarily residential neighbourhood in the northern part of Kamloops, situated along the west side of the North Thompson River and extending toward the Lac du Bois grasslands. Its location gives the community a distinct edge-of-city character, with established residential streets and local services set close to river corridors, open hillsides and larger natural landscapes. Westsyde became part of the City of Kamloops through the 1973 amalgamation.
The neighbourhood is organized around Westsyde Road and a network of connecting residential streets, with schools, churches, small businesses and community facilities serving the surrounding area. Its development includes long-established housing areas as well as newer residential growth, while the wider Westsyde area retains connections to the agricultural and rural landscape that predates its incorporation into Kamloops.
Westsyde Centennial Park is a major local gathering place, with sports fields, a playground, water park, pump track, courts, a lacrosse facility, disc golf, picnic areas and multi-use pathways. The park is also connected to the Rivers Trail system and lies near the river dike, offering access to walking and cycling routes. Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre provides an indoor pool, fitness facilities and aquatic recreation, adding to the neighbourhood’s community-oriented amenities.
Education is an important part of local life, with several elementary schools and Westsyde Secondary School located in the area. Together with its parks, recreation facilities, places of worship and small commercial services, these institutions support Westsyde as a largely self-contained community within Kamloops, while its proximity to the North Thompson River and Lac du Bois landscape provides a strong connection to the region’s outdoor setting.
