Kenna Cartwright Park
Kenna Cartwright Nature Park is a large natural area on Mount Dufferin in Kamloops, with its main address at 2000 Hillside Drive. Established in 1996 and named for former Kamloops councillor and mayor Kenna Cartwright, the park protects almost 800 hectares of grassland, forest, hills, wetlands, and valleys within the city.
More than 55 kilometres of designated trails wind through the park, offering routes for hiking, walking, trail running, and cycling. The network includes easier paths as well as more challenging climbs, with trail classifications shown on the City of Kamloops map and at junctions. Popular viewpoints look across Kamloops, the Thompson Valley, Kamloops Lake, and the meeting of the North and South Thompson Rivers.
The park has several access points, including Hillside Drive, Pacific Way, the Home Depot area, and Bunker Road. Facilities include free parking, washrooms, picnic areas, and a wetland. Dogs are permitted off leash when kept under control. There is no water or telephone service in the park, so visitors should plan accordingly.
Trails can be affected by spring snowmelt and may close temporarily to reduce erosion and surface damage. The park may also close during periods of extreme fire danger. Winter trails are generally not cleared of snow, and visitors should stay on designated routes and use suitable footwear.
